In today's Dinette Set, no one could possibly pay attention to the substance of the panel while that computer logo cries for attention.
It appears to be some sort of monstrous pumpkin that is feasting on crumbs from itself or the entrails of its latest victim. In either case, such a logo could only signify some sort of slamming gaming rig.
Which means Burl and Joy must be pretending to be computer idiots in order to get Patty out of the house so they can join their guild for raid in Molten Core.

Umm. If it's hardcore gaming they're into, they're raiding Serpenshrine Cavern or maybe the Black Temple. Molten core is last year. :P
It's got to be a pumpkin, though, because there's no apple monitor/iMac that has an apple on the back of it.
Drawing that thing as a laptop would have made more sense, the logo could stay there, and you wouldn't have continuity hounds wondering why the computer is in the kitchen.
As much as it pains me to say this, I have to admit that the "content" of the cartoon is actually somewhat funny. As an IT administrator, I do deal with people who will send you an email and within the minute call you to ask "Have you read my email yet?"
I know a good number of people who, when they were new to the internet, would have acted much like Joy and Burl.
Of course, stupid marginalia draw the eye away and ruin what could've been one of the cartoonist's proudest moments - a mildly funny Dinette Set.
This is half a month after the fact, but I would just like to point out the fact that there was a dilbert cartoon at least ten years ago that was the same only much funnier, in which the pointy-haired-boss sends an email and a fax and has his secretary call and bring them a hard copy. Anyways this joke is certainly not a new one.
I found the Dilbert cartoon. It is in the 1996 book titled "Dogbert's Management Handbook" on the eighth page of section 7.5.
