Scratch the Surface

In today's Dinette Set, the background details demand comment:
  • Real classy comment with those road worker T-shirts.
  • Why exactly do you need both Timmy's dialog and the increased fines sign?
  • Dear God! What the hell has happened to Timmy and Dale's faces?

Yah, you'd think that, given the proletariat leanings of the strip, there'd be a little more sympathy for the road workers. I mean, the "punchline" would still "work" without those shirts.

I guess that's the problem with all the revolutions, eventually the revolutionaries turn on themselves. We eat our own young.

it's one thing to put nasty words in your characters' mouths and then say "hey, you're not supposed to like them!" hell, larry david has made a living doing it.

it's totally different to label someone's shirt with a slur like this. let's be clear: julie larson, for whatever reason, thinks road workers are idiots.

It's a play on IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation). Does that make it any funnier/less offensive? No.

Ahh - that explains the second "i" being lower case. You're right though, doesn't make it funny or appropriate.
