Huh?

In today's Dinette Set, it's all about proving who's a greater Luddite:
  • A $98 calculator? For that price it should do your homework for you.
  • The kid is in 7th or 8th grade, by now I hope he already knows his multiplication tables. Or as Dale says, as if he were a grizzled prospector: "timesing and minusing."
  • Burl doesn't even understand the purpose of a slide rule.

Jiminy, there's not even a shadow of a joke today. There's some math-related marginalia, but Gladys Kravitz? WTF?

Sadly, there are lots of calculators more than $98. I've never heard of them being required in 7th or 8th grade (we weren't *allowed* calculators then - but I also had to walk up hill in the snow to and from school while doing a lot of plustulating and dividation in my head)...
